In 2006, NUI Galway embarked on a visionary development programme aimed at improving the University's campus facilities, academic programmes and student amenities. The University is well on the way to creating the Campus of the Future, welcoming more students each year and developing as a prestigious and innovative University

This major investment programme, includes planning for new buildings, as well as extensions and renovations of existing facilities. The new sports centre opened its doors in 2008 and there many exciting developments on the way.

The University's priority projects include a cultural centre, a new Engineering Building which will bring together all of the Engineering departments, a Science Research Centre and a Translational Research Centre. The University's historical centre, the Quandrange will be renovated and an extension to the Hardiman library is also planned.

There are also impressive plans to re-integrate the River Corrib with the campus buildings and roadways while improving the movement of traffic and people around the campus.
